Paper Prototype for Reminder App

Challenge

Determine the ideal user for the app and their needs associated to tracking tasks. Then, create new designs based on the users’ individual challenges.

Approach

Without any background information about who the current users are and their behavior, I reviewed the Reminders app to understand its functionality and potential target market. I decided to research the app potential with millennials.

I directed four, one-on-one user interviews over the phone. Each participant was asked a series of questions pertaining to their to-do list, calendar and reminder behaviors. I found existing flaws within the existing app like using the wrong terminology, inability to connect with other apps, etc.

This target group is looking for an app that is as simple as jotting down a note. A few things, the users want the app to prioritize their tasks by due date, share reminders with their friends and family and have multiple views. I was able to use this information to create a paper prototype which I tested with four more users.

Final Product

I created paper prototypes for several key user journeys within the app. These could be used to create more substantial wireframes to deliver to the development team.

I identified that the optimal user is a twenty-something, in a relationship, balancing a full-time job, a household, a social life, etc.
